Sometimes what you see is more powerful than what you hear. Sometimes it is very difficult to express what we see for example these are the Top 10 photographs that shocked the whole world.
1. Albania(Kosovo):
Agim Shala, a two year old guy, belongs to Kosovo. He is one of the thousands refugees reunited and camped in Kukes, Albania. This shot was made by Carol Guzy. She was the first women to receive Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for spot new photography.
2. Liberia is burning:
Countless bullets are lying on the streets of Monrovia telling the situation of lawlessness in Monrovia, Liberia. Due to fighting between government soldiers and rebel forces Monrovia is the most affected city. This photograph is taken by Carolyn Cole( Los Angles,Times photographer ).
3. Poor Omayra Sanchez:
Omayra Sanchez is a victim of eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia 1985. Colombia’s officials failed to respond properly and 25000 people lost their lives. Countless buildings were collapsed. Frank Fournier bring this terrifying picture of Omayra Sanchez to millions of people in the world, who lost his life after 3 days of fighting for his life.
4. Saleh Khalaf, “Lion Heart”:
Millions of people lost their lives in Iraq war. Saleh Khalaf is an example of bravery to this cruel world. He was badly injured in an explosion during Iraq war. He was treated in a hospital in Oakland ,CA and faced many surgeries. Deanne Fitzmaurice wrote an essay “ Operation lion heart “ which is a story of 9 year old boy Saleh khalaf and won Pulitzer Prize in 2005.
5. Violence in Thailand:
On October 6, 1976 The Thammasat University Massacre took place in Bankok Thailand. The root cause of this brutatlity was the return of Field Marshall Thanom Kittikachorn (a dictator) back to Thailand after his exile. Those who protested against the dictator were beaten, hung, burnt and shot to death.
6. Behind me stand the Lord:
This pictures tells the story of a 16 year old Jewish settler Ynet sNili. This brave girl is resisting to Israeli police who is trying to evacute so called illegal outposts, such as Amona. This picture has been taken by Oded Balilty, an Israeli photographer for the Associated Press.
In Ynet Opinion Israelis should not be proud of this, it’s a symbol of disgrace for them. Police beaten her brutally. Prime Minister Ehud remarked I am not alone behind me stand the Lord and the people of Israel.
7. 9/11 World trade centre devastation:
Words can not express the devastation of 9/11. Steve Ludlum captured the moment when second plane collapsed with the WTC New York leaving behind a huge cloud of fire and smoke.
8. Indian ocean tsunami (Arko Datta):
This picture shows how brutal consequences occurs when a deadliest natural disaster tsunami hits. Reuters photographer Arko Datta captured a mourning woman lying on the ground. She has lost her home, family and everything after Indian ocean tsunami. This picture made Arko Datta to win the World Press Photo competition of 2004.
9. People in despair:
Storm in Haiti in 2008 leaves behind such horrible consequences. Patrick Farrel, a Miami Herald photographer saved some miserable scenes of a boy who is trying to save his stroller after storm hit Haiti.
10. 1984 Bhopal gas leakage:
26 years back a leak of methyl isocyanate gas and other chemicals caused the death of millions of people in Bhopal, India. Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal was responsible for this disaster. safety standards and maintenance procedures had not been followed by the company.
This picture is taken by Pablo Bartholomew and Raghu Rai. 554789 people got injuries and 16000 innocent people lost their lives in this horrifying incident. The picture is giving more powerful expression than words.
